Taiwan Increases Cyber Warfare Development to Combat China’s Cyber Army

In response to China’s recent development of an extensive cyber army that could potentially attack Taiwan, the United States, Japan and many other countries, Taiwan’s military is moving to upgrade its cyber warfare capabilities.

According to local media reports that cited the Ministry of National Defense’s (MND’s) 2013 budget report, Taiwan’s electronic warfare department has recently been expanded and its military is in the process of developing a new mechanism that can test its cyber warfare combat and defense capabilities. The MND’s report also reported that Taiwan’s military and national security agencies’ cyber information systems were hacked nearly 1.04 million times in the first half of this year, citing data compiled by the National Security Bureau (NSB).
